Interior Style - Farmhouse
Like stepping into a warm hug, farmhouse style gives your home a wonderfully cosy and comfortable feel. This perennially popular look is a perfect fit for family homes where the focus is on slowing down and spending quality time together with those you love.
Whether you opt for a traditional farmhouse look or prefer a modern country style, keep it low maintenance with durable, natural materials, such as timber and stone, furniture with weathered finishes (vintage finds work a treat!), and plenty of snuggly textures, like chunky knit throws and soft linens.
“Emphasise the earthy, natural feel of the farmhouse look with a colour palette drawn from the landscape, which you can use across everything from walls and floors to furniture and accessories, such as warm white, greige, brown, soft green and rich charcoal.”

Create the look
Exterior colours
Evoke country charm right from your doorstep with a façade featuring nature-inspired hues, such as earthy beige, soft cream and charcoal, classic weatherboard cladding, and sections of chocolate brickwork or smooth render. Complete the look with a dark tiled roof and warm timber accents.
Interior flooring
Nothing says classic farmhouse style better than a timber floor. Or, add earthy sophistication with stone-look floor tiles. Both materials are hardy and low-maintenance, making them ideal for busy parts of the home, such as kitchens, living areas and entries.
For quiet spots like bedrooms and studies, opt for chunky, loop-pile carpet, layered with cosy rugs.
Feature lighting
Opt for light fixtures that reinforce the farmhouse vibe. This might include domed metal pendants or clear glass orbs over the kitchen island, an oversized iron chandelier above the dining table, wall sconces on either side of the bed, and a selection of cosy table lamps with drum shades.
Kitchen styling
It’s all in the details with this look. Create a rustic heart of the home with shaker-style kitchen cabinetry or flat-face units in warm timber, paired with luxurious stone benchtops and simple, chrome or matt black tapware. Cabinet handles play an important part in reinforcing your farmhouse look; choose eyelid handles for drawers and pull knobs for cabinet doors.
Include open shelving in a contrasting tone, such as deep grey or sage, to display cookbooks and collectibles. Complete the look with simple wooden bar stools and country-style pendants.
Bathroom bliss
For a serene, farmhouse-style bathroom, run beautiful, stone-look tiles in warm shades of grey or greige right from floor to ceiling. Add in a simple, above-counter ceramic sink, chrome or matt black tapware, and rustic wood joinery. Laminate benchtops in a warm timber finish can be a cost-effective way to create this look. Store bathroom paraphernalia in woven baskets, and smaller, everyday items on pretty benchtop trays.

Furniture & Styling
Turn your living room into an inviting haven with deep-seated, traditional sofas and seating in natural materials like linen, cotton and boucle, topped with striped and textured cushions, and cosy throws. Create some contrast with a wing chair in soft, tan leather or a patterned fabric.
Enhance natural light and garden views with simple linen sheers at the window. Emphasise the country vibe with an abundance of indoor plants in woven-fibre planters, and botanical artworks in simple, wooden frames.
