The Linen Look: A Fresh New Spin on Hamptons Style
Warm tonal shades and texture galore. Discover our ‘Linen look’ for your new home.
READ ARTICLEThe Hamptons look is a favourite among Australian homeowners, and for good reason – it’s bright, breezy, and hits that perfect sweet spot between laid-back and sophisticated. With its focus on natural materials, soft, beachy tones, and open, airy spaces, it’s also a style that works a treat in Australian homes. You only need a few elements to bring Hamptons flair to your own home, starting with a tin (or three) of white paint, furniture in classic shapes, and plenty of texture.

Hamptons-style exterior starts with classic weatherboards in coastal colours, such as white, pale grey, cream, greige, or dusty blue, paired with sections of cool-grey render. Add in classic architectural elements, such as decorative mouldings, colonial-style windows, plantation shutters, and crisp white trims. Complete the look with dark roof tiles or a light-toned metal roof.
Add warmth and texture to your entry, kitchen and main living areas with chevron- or herringbone-patterned timber flooring, or polished or softly patterned stone-look floor tiles. Bring cosiness to bedrooms and study areas with textured, loop-pile in light coastal tones.
Keep lighting simple and elegant, with lantern-style pendants in polished chrome, brushed brass or glass above your kitchen island or dining table, wall sconces hung symmetrically to frame key furniture pieces, such as your bed or a living room console, and table and floor lamps with patterned, ceramic bases and linen shades.
Give your kitchen an open and relaxed feel with traditional Shaker-style cabinetry doors in crisp white, soft grey or a statement colour, like charcoal, finished off with ornate, black handles. A few plain or ribbed-glass doors on your overhead units will create a lovely spot to display cookbooks and collectibles. From there, dial up the luxe factor with marble-look benchtops, and decorative tapware in polished chrome or brass, rounded out with a trio of oversized pendants over the kitchen island, and a deep, farmhouse-style ceramic sink.
For a classic Hamptons bathroom, choose a Shaker-style vanity with a curvaceous ceramic basin, and decorative chrome or pewter tapware. Specify subway wall tiles and marble-effect floor tiles. Round out the scheme with delicate wall sconces either side of the mirror.
Evoke contemporary Hamptons with a modern, floating vanity with wide v-groove panelling, a sleek, integrated sink, and minimalist tapware in matt black or brushed gold. Add a pill-shaped mirror, orb wall lights, and textural, kit-kat wall tiles. Doing up a powder room? Make a statement with bold, patterned wallpaper.
