What’s Hot Underfoot: 2021 Carpet & Rug Trends
Sink your toes into the undeniable luxury and comfort of soft flooring with our guide to the latest carpet and rug trends for 2021.
While timber and tiled floors are a stylish choice for high traffic areas of the home, carpet and rugs add an undeniable level of luxury to areas of your home where you want to relax. If you love the idea of sinking your toes into soft flooring, consider upgrading to carpeted flooring in living areas and bedrooms or simply introduce rugs to help zone your space.
Looking for inspiration? We chatted to two design experts about what’s trending in carpet colour and texture for 2021 so you can create a stylish look you’ll love.
Earthy neutrals
The back-to-nature trend is filtering through to all aspects of interiors in 2021 and flooring is no exception. From pebble and taupe to rich shades of charcoal, you’ll see plenty of rustic neutral flooring this year. Mid-tone shades are easy to live with and forgiving – perfect if you have kids, pets or a lot of guests coming in and out. Paler-toned carpets will require more looking after, but are wonderful for creating a sense of light, space and luxury in your home.
If easy care and affordability are your priorities, consider one of our polyester or nylon carpets in an earthy neutral shade.
Hotel luxe
With comfort and wellbeing as top priorities in 2021, opt for sumptuous and luxurious soft flooring in areas like the bedroom, lounge and home office. Indulging in a velvety plush pile carpet in these spaces is a surefire way to add hotel-style luxury to your interior.
Consider upgrading to one of our luxe pure wool carpets or one in a hardy yet indulgent solution-dyed nylon.
Chunky loop piles
Oversized loop piles have an earthy texture and resort-style feel that is particularly well-suited to coastal, Hamptons and country-style homes. They convey a laid-back, welcoming vibe, and also work well in family homes or those with a focus on indoor-outdoor connection.
You’ll find plenty of options in chunky loops pile carpets at Carlisle Homes, including ones in pure wool, wool-nylon mix and solution-dyed nylon. You can boost the look and feel of your carpet – and extend its lifespan – by specifying one of our premium carpet underlays (we’ve even got an acoustic one that muffles noise!)
Natural flooring
Natural materials such as sisal, wool and jute in tones of honey, cream and wheat are trending in carpets and rugs this year. Top a chunky woollen carpet with a round or oblong woven sisal or jute rug for a casual, layered look or use it to soften a tiled or timber floor. Carry the neutrals through to the rest of the scheme and add natural accessories such as pampas grass for a luxury, modern boho feel. Consider adding colours that are reminiscent of the outdoors in your soft furnishings, such as rust and terracotta.
Statement rugs
Soften the look of timber or tiles, or go for an on-trend layered look by topping your carpet with a fabulous rug.
Cowhide rugs will give your space a funky, eclectic feel, and are popular in 2021 due to their organic shape and neutral colours.
A rug with age and patina works to ground a space and add depth. Consider traditional Persian and Oriental rugs - especially those with earthy washed-out tones – for a versatile and elegant look.
