If you can’t go past the moody vibes and effortless cool of urban-style kitchens, you’ll love our Cosmopolitan design. With its dark and dramatic colours and rich, walnut joinery, this cosy kitchen has a warm and social vibe that’s ideal for entertaining. 

Cosmopolitan is one of four full-size kitchens and two full-size butler’s pantries currently on display at our Spectra Showroom, all set up to show you exactly how your dream kitchen could look, so make sure you take a tour next time you visit.

Ahead of your visit, here are the key elements you’ll need to know to bring the Cosmopolitan kitchen look to life in your new home.

A dark and dramatic colour palette

Evoke moody, downtown vibes by running rich, masculine tones of grey, chocolate brown and black throughout your kitchen. 

We’ve finished the sleek, flat-face cabinetry in our Cosmopolitan kitchen in rich timber (Laminex Aged Walnut in Chalk Finish) and contrasted it with a few sections in mid-tone grey (Laminex Tornado in PureGrain Finish). Caesarstone Turbine Grey, a deep, granite-grey quartz, on the island and benchtops adds to the sophisticated, urban feel. 

Evoke classic loft style with a tiled splashback that mimics the look of exposed brick – we’ve chosen Beaumont Tiles’ Euromarmo Polished Brick tiles in Petra Grey. Then take a tip from our design experts and add a section of smoky glass to bounce light around and make your kitchen feel bigger and brighter. 

Make it social

Dial up the convivial flavour by choosing a generous, multi-functional island, like we’ve done in our Cosmopolitan kitchen, with oodles of prep space, a section to tuck a couple of bar stools, and space for display items and cookbooks. 

Keep the lines of your kitchen simple and minimalist by integrating major appliances, such as the fridge and dishwasher, behind cabinetry. And don’t forget to include entertaining-friendly touches, such as the Fisher & Paykel 38-bottle wine cabinet seen in our Cosmopolitan kitchen.

Black accents

Sleek, matt-black hardware and a matching sink and tap add to the urbane, modern vibe. In Cosmopolitan, we’ve chosen a gorgeous matt-black double-bowl sink (Oliveri Santorini Double Bowl Topmount sink) with a matching mixer tap (Phoenix Mekko Squareline 190mm sink mixer in Matte Black), along with clean-lined matt black joinery handles (Hafele Black Matt handles).  

Vintage-style touches

Urban, loft-style kitchens are synonymous with vintage pieces – and there’s no better way to add character to the space. 

Decorative lighting is the perfect way to bring in a retro touch. In Cosmopolitan, we’ve hung a trio of classic-with-a-twist, lantern pendants over the island – Beacon Lighting’s Montauk 3 Tall Black & Ribbed Glass pendants. 

Professional-looking appliances

When it comes to appliances, make like the pros and opt for designs in stainless steel and black glass – matching, if you can. 

In our Cosmopolitan kitchen, we’ve included a Belling stainless cooktop gas cooktop to give you precise control over cooking temperatures. A concealed black Technika rangehood is tucked neatly into the overhead cabinetry to maintain the kitchen’s minimalist lines. A stylish, matching built-in oven and integrated microwave in black glass from Belling complete the contemporary look.
