Peninsula Living: A Relaxed, Resort-Style Look You’ll Adore

by Carlisle Homes

Recreate a holiday vibe at home with warm, coastal tones and natural accents.

Evoke that magical holiday feel at home with the Peninsula Living look – think soft, sandy colours, luxurious natural materials and a laid-back, indoor-outdoor lifestyle. It’s honest, robust and perfectly suited to the way we love to live. Here’s how to turn your home into a sanctuary you’ll never want to leave.

Transform your home into a tranquil retreat using tones and textures inspired by the coastline, as shown in at Highview.

Soft, sandy tones

Make your interior feel like an oasis with serene colours inspired by the coastline. Layer soft tones of sand, taupe and pebble grey in soft furnishings, furniture, wallpaper and flooring. For walls, think warm white to open up and brighten your interiors.

The look is robust and low-key – choose sturdy, comfortable furniture and removable slipcovers that can be tossed in the washing machine. With the focus on indoor-outdoor living, it’s important to choose finishes that are durable and simple to clean, such as tiled floors for general areas and high-quality stone benchtops and cabinetry for kitchens and bathrooms that are easy to wipe down.

The sheer curtains from James Dunlop Textiles featured in Highview let natural light filter through the home whilst providing privacy for a fresh coastal look.

Lashings of light

Maximise natural light and boost your indoor-outdoor connection by opting for minimalist window coverings, such as breezy linen sheers in white or cream.

Other options for window furnishings that work with this look include white Veri Shades, which are a new vertical blind-sheer curtain combo that works beautifully on patio doors. Alternatively, consider white venetian blinds or plantation shutters for windows, which are a practical choice if you want to be able to control light, privacy and breezes. For wet rooms such as bathrooms and laundries, opt for styles in aluminium or timber-look polystyrene that won’t be damaged by moisture.

Classic Oak cabinetry creates a relaxed weathered feel in the kitchen at Highview.

Blonde timber

Natural timber is a must for this look. Opt for furniture with simple, pared-back lines in warm, blonde-tone timber with a raw or weathered feel. Add texture and interest with one or two slatted pieces, such as a bench seat at the end of the bed or a console in the living room.

When it comes to kitchen and bathroom joinery, consider textured Classic Oak with a Chalk finish to emphasise the coastal vibe. Finish off with low-key, brushed stainless-steel or chrome handles and tapware.

The lounge room at Highview incorporates textured natural furnishings to add extra warmth to the neutral Peninsula Living colour scheme.

Natural textures

Add a rustic flavour with furniture and accessories in natural fibres such as rattan, jute and coir. Small touches work best, such as woven natural pendant shades, bedside tables with rattan drawer fronts, a jute rug, and one or two planters in earthy, natural fibres. Evoke memories of holiday Happy Hour with a rattan bar cart decked out with glasses and cocktail ingredients (guaranteed to bring a smile to guests’ faces).

When it comes to soft furnishings, texture is key. Opt for tactile fabrics and flooring that cries out to be touched, such as linen or linen-mix upholstery for sofas and armchairs, fringed scatter cushions, textured throws and chunky, loop-pile carpet in bedrooms and quiet spaces.

Inject colour into your Peninsula Living interior by adding touches of blue to accent the coastal inspired theme. Pictured here in Highview.

Touches of blue

Ground the scheme and create contrast by introducing accents of oceanic blue through artwork and accessories, such as cushions and throws on the sofa and bed. Include different shades of blue – from pale blue through to deep indigo to create a softly layered look.

Add the finishing touches with fresh coastal imagery and sculptural lighting, as pictured at Highview.

Coastal artwork and motifs

Emphasise your sophisticated beachside look with coastal-inspired artwork, botanical-print cushions and bedlinen, and feature wallpaper behind the bed or in the hallway with a subtle coastal print in sandy tones.

Add character to your scheme – and be reminded of the faraway places you’ve visited – by displaying holiday finds on tabletops and shelves, such as driftwood and glass jars filled with pebbles, sand and seashells.

Create a relaxed, resort-style atmosphere for your ultimate staycation by adding subtle greenery as shown in Highview.

Lush greenery

Bring the outdoors in with a medley of gorgeous indoor plants. Think lush, hanging plants in the corner of the bathroom or trailing from a shelf in the living room, a cluster of potted greenery in different sizes to lift a dull corner in the family room, or a trio of potted succulents to brighten up the desk in your home office. The more the merrier!

If you’re a bit of a black thumb when it comes to indoor plants, consider snipping a few palm fronds and popping them in vases to display on the mantelpiece of hallway console. They can last two to three weeks if you trim the stems and replace the water every few days.

A staycation never looked so good!
