New season, new look! Check out some of our favourite new homewares to spruce up the rooms in your home

Bored of your interiors and feel like you’re stuck in a decorating rut? A few smart updates are often all it takes to jazz up a tired interior – and best of all, they don’t have to cost the earth. Here’s a roundup of some of the season’s best new decor ideas that will have you falling in love with your home all over again.

Kitchen

Today’s kitchen is about so much more than just cooking – it’s the heart of the home where friends and family chat, dine and connect. Make your kitchen truly inviting by introducing comfortable bar stools, interesting display items and natural textures.

This season, the focus is on warm timbers, handcrafted ceramics and natural stone. There’s also been an explosion in sleek and stylish kitchen appliances in luxurious metallics and bold brights that are guaranteed to make a statement on your benchtop – Alessi’s electric kettle and Smeg’s benchtop appliances are some of our favourites.

The kitchen at the Carlisle Granville home features an abstract print and decorative wall clock.

Artwork is a quick and easy way to personalise a kitchen and you’ll find all manner of affordable options online; prop an abstract print or a black and white photo on an open shelf (see Urban Road and blinq.art for great selections) and see your cooking space come alive. Pair artwork with one or two handcrafted ceramics in tonal colours or in this season’s 70s-inspired blue-green or terracotta.

Add a sense of occasion to dinner time by swapping out boring serving ware with eye-catching, contemporary styles, such as the muted pastels at Mud Australia or terrazzo-look styles at Country Road. Up the luxe factor with brushed-gold cutlery from Krof and fresh flowers or foliage in beautiful, coloured glass vases.

Bathroom

Elevate your bathroom beyond the functional and turn it into a space where you can escape the worries of the day and enjoy your daily rituals.

The first step towards bathroom zen is clearing your countertops of clutter. Consider investing in a vanity drawer organiser to keep makeup and bathroom paraphernalia neatly tucked away. Line your countertops with a beautiful scented candle that you can enjoy when you’re soaking in the tub, some luxury hand soap and spa-inspired accessories.

Splash out on a gorgeous new set of towels – not only will they give your bathroom an instant style refresh, but they will feel lovely to use. Choose from statement stripes, such as the classic designs at Missoni Home or the striking new blush, burgundy and terracotta styles at Aura Home. Finally, treat yourself to a beautiful linen bathrobe so you can pamper yourself in style.

Living area

Draw the outside into your home this summer with indoor plants and natural tones and textures. When it comes to greenery trends, it’s all about striking foliage in 2021 – think mini monstera, with its split leaves, and philodendron gloriosum, distinguished by its lush, heart-shaped leaves. Display plants in simple, curvy pots in different shapes and sizes (The Plant Society sells some of the best) on shelves, coffee and side tables and even window sills.

Adding on-trend coloured cushions and a natural jute rug gives this living area at the Carlisle Amberley an instant seasonal refresh.

Give your sofa an instant seasonal update with new scatter cushions in your choice of brights or neutrals in natural fibres, such as linen and cotton – check out Adairs for some appealing designs. Introduce natural textures in other ways too, including a thick-woven, jute rug and a timber tray on the coffee table. Add a touch of the unexpected to the space by having one or two opulent metallic moments, such as this sweet brass essence burner from Lightly or slender, brushed gold picture frames on a shelf or wall.

Master bedroom

The master bedroom is your personal sanctuary – a calming space where you can relax and recharge for the day ahead, surrounded by your creature comforts. Set the scene with fragrances that smell heaven-scent, statement artwork and wonderfully crisp bedlinen.

By adding a comfortable padded headboard and deep layers of pillows the bedroom at Carlisle’s Beaumont becomes a luxurious on trend retreat.

Add texture and cosiness by piling the bed high with cushions in different shapes and sizes (try Fenton & Fenton), and consider splashing out a soft, cushioned bedhead so you can sit up and read in comfort.

Keep your bedside table clutter-free with a statement-making trinket tray in a luxe material such as gold or natural stone. Swap out that dated clothes hamper in the corner of the room with a practical and good-looking design in a woven, natural material, and lay a rug beside the bed in one of this season’s block colours so you can wake up to something soft underfoot.
