Consumed by Contemporary Living

by Carlisle Homes

If you consider yourself a hip and happening type of person and old world traditional leaves you feeling a little underwhelmed, you need to take a look at Contemporary Living for a fresh new take on ‘here and now’.

Signature sleek lines and a focus on form, bring a wonderful simplicity to this styling, and while less is definitely more, the emphasis is on eye-catching spotlights of delight.

We have 5 key tips from our Interior Design Team, to introduce a taste of Contemporary Living into your home.

Keep it neutral with your big pieces…

With an underlying theme of ‘being in the present’, it’s important to keep your large room pieces, such as couches, chairs and tables in a blend of refined neutrals such as cream, black, white and shades of grey. This way you can create a striking backdrop for your theme and focus on keeping accessories like cushions, rugs and artwork rotating with the latest in patterns and textures.

Lighting in a monochromatic palette as per most décor themes, lighting holds the key to nailing the look. Contemporary Living embraces an essence of light and airiness throughout, created by clear glass, white or black shades and diffusers. In addition, polished or high gloss surfaces to reflect the light, with chrome, porcelain tiles and glass, simply bring the whole look together with a dash of glamour.

Patterns and texture complete the picture…

Introducing elements with pattern and texture for the perfect complement to the elegant neutral baselines, is the glue that brings this popular look together. Don’t just focus on that one geometric cushion, think tiling, artwork, mirrors and rugs. Repeating patterns give this style its edgy ‘here and now’ feel. Simple accessories that can be rotated will have you creating new looks with each season.

Indoor greenery keeps this style fresh…

With a palette of mainly clean neutrals and monochromatic features and patterns, nothing beats adding the zest of life like fresh flowers and indoor plants. Arrangements of green glossy leaves, like the on trend Monstera, or pots of Fiddle Leaf Figs in woven belly baskets, beautifully offset this style.
