The colour dip

In today’s highly connected world, recycled pieces are not just for the style-savvy interior designers hoping to make a statement while curbing land fill. Anyone can get in on this trend and the possibilities are limitless. If you want to DIY all you will need is a few cans of spray paint, some pots of paint and masking tape. Or head into Target, Ikea, Fantastic Furniture and even K-mart for fashion-forward accessories that will see your Scandinavian inspired décor, pop with colour. This quirky movement has been hugely popular since 2012 and does not seem to be slowing down in momentum. Here are four ways to turn “drab into fab.”

Happy Feet
Give your tired old staple fixtures a ‘leg-lift’ and create your own style. This trend is playful, quirky and a fun way to give your furniture a modern twist. Besides, if you tire of it, it’s not hard to paint over. Stores like K-mart, Target and Fantastic Furniture, all do a range of colour dipped pieces in case you are not DIY inclined.

Uber Colour Pop
Colour dipping is not just for furniture, here are four innovative ideas to transform household items into signature pieces that echo individual style and taste. If you are as adventurous with your food as you are with your utensils, guests will be lining up like celebrities eager to be seen at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago, in Beverly Hills!

Sensational Stylish Storage
Just because storage items are purely functional pieces doesn’t mean they can’t have a make-over too. Keep the palette soft, versatile and neutral, with pops of your signature colour to keep things fresh. Local iconic brand Cotton On have teamed up Mark Tuckey Designs, to create an affordable, yet high-end range of homewares which are available from selected Cotton On stores or online.

The striking cobalt blue of the colour dipped ottoman in the Radison on display at the Aston Estate, Craigieburn, allows this home’s feature colour to really pop.

DIY Green Thumb
Anyone can paint, it’s as easy as one, two, three; all you will need is masking tape, pots of paint and a brush. Get onto the garage sale circuit or local market and pick-up old pots (in different sizes) milk bottles, even mason jars…and viola, your Alfresco dining area will be transformed into a secret garden with pops of colour that will inject life into your personal oasis.
